Large AI Language Models for the European economy

On May 19, 2022, the first info event on OpenGPT-X took place with more than 100 participants. The topic was “Large AI Language Models for the European Economy” with interesting presentations and lively discussions about challenges and opportunities of the digital infrastructure in Europe and the potential of OpenGPT-X and Gaia-X in this context.

Dr. Nicolas Flores-Herr and Carolina Held from the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems, Dr. Jan Terhaag from Aleph Alpha, Prof. Dr. Georg Rehm from the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and Michael Ziegelmaier from Gaia-X Hub Germany spoke on the virtual stage.

The panelists and participants discussed topics such as the need for a European language model, the representation of European values in OpenGPT-X, and the monitoring and reduction of bias. Other topics included the interfaces of OpenGPT-X for companies, the needs of start-ups, and how research and the public sector can benefit from the project.
